My personal love of movement is what I try to share with all classes, helping students to experience freedom in movement even when they are working hard. My background in movement began at an early age, with Pilates being introduced to promote functional muscular strength as a complement to ballet training. My practice has evolved to incorporate a more multi-disciplinary approach as I became more involved with athletic training and the instruction of group fitness classes. Yoga came later, when I rediscovered my love of dance could be found through an asana practice. Finding the freedom in movement with breath helped me balance out the stress I was finding in the academic world. From a scholarly level I have always been interested in the control of muscle function, completing my MSc in comparative physiology at Queen’s University in the spring of 2010. I am currently pursuing my PhD at SFU in Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology.

My formal training in Pilates has been the mat program through Balanced Body University which involves the classical program mixed with a more contemporary approach utilizing current scientific research and understanding of biomechanics. More recently I completed a 200 hour interdisciplinary yoga training through Nosara Yoga Institute focusing on inquiry-based learning. I continue to further my education through personal practice and teaching, providing me unique learning experiences through the diversity of students I encounter. It is my goal to share with students an understanding of your own body and how to work efficiently, move freely and most of all enjoy the practice.
